Synopsis

THE BED HEAD is Feature length Adaptation based on the title "The Bed Head" written by Jennifer Grahame.

The Bed Head is a drama set in the hills of Kington, Jamaica under the tones where philandering husbands are common and sex is currency. A double journey women led story about agency. Intertwined in cultural nuances of what choice and privilege looks like. When a pregnant wife discovers her husband has been imposing himself on the help, her sense of betrayal unleashes her ability to unsee the woman before as a victim but instead as a traitor. When she undoes the marital vows and rids the two from home she falls out of the social scene out of shame. While her husband convinces the help to follow him to his coffee farm in the hills. The help reluctantly follows due to her financial obligation to her family. Both women seek to redefine their circumstances and have more agency over their lives. Only to face each other once again in hope to reckon with the infraction that brought them to where they are in the first place.

TEAM BIOs

DANAE GRADISON is a Jamaican-born filmmaker and director based in Brooklyn, NY, whose work explores empathy, power, and identity through a distinctly Caribbean lens. A graduate of the School of Visual Arts, she studied under Oscar-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris and acclaimed director Bob Giraldi, and currently mentors emerging filmmakers through SVA's Directing program and the Reel Works Initiative. Her short film Unspoken — adapted from Jennifer Grahame's The Bed Head — premiered at the Oscar-qualifying Urbanworld Film Festival and has screened internationally at the Pan African Film Festival, the Martha's Vineyard African American Film Festival, the SAG-AFTRA Foundation Short Film Showcase, and the DGA Showcase. The short serves as a proof-of-concept for the feature, demonstrating both audience and industry appetite for this story and Danae's ability to execute it. Danae has also directed two stage play readings — Heir Jones by Anthony Othello Pratt and The Buzzer by Chandra Thomas — demonstrating her command of actor-driven storytelling across mediums. She is a recipient of the inaugural Jamaica Screen Development Initiative Film Grant, and The Bed Head is her debut feature.

KAREEN BLAKE CHIN is the founder and casting director of KBC Casting, widely regarded as Jamaica's foremost casting director. Known for her commitment to authentic storytelling and her eye for discovering underrepresented talent, her credits include One Love, Black Cake, and A Time to Die. Her involvement ensures The Bed Head has access to the full depth of Jamaican acting talent across all roles.

KENISHA GIBSON is a Jamaica-based production leader with over 25 years of experience across local and international productions. Her credits include No Time to Die (2021), Knight and Day (2010), and License to Wed (2007). Known for her expertise in production logistics, budget management, and negotiation, Kenisha has a proven track record of delivering narrative and commercial projects at the highest level. A committed advocate for the growth of Jamaica's film industry, she has played an active role in developing local talent and strengthening the infrastructure that makes the island an increasingly vital destination for world-class production.

GABRIELLE BLACKWOOD is a Jamaican cinematographer working across narrative and documentary film, and one of Jamaica's only female DPs currently active at a professional level. Her recent credits include the documentary Norman / Norman(2024), the critically acclaimed series Get Millie Black (2024), and The Black Man series (2020). Her lens brings an intimate, grounded visual language ideally suited to the domestic spaces and power dynamics at the heart of The Bed Head.

RACHELLE WILLIAMS is one of Jamaica's most sought-after production designers, a consistent first call for both local and international productions shooting on the island. Her credits include No Time to Die (2021), Yardie (2018), and Blackjack Christmas (2022). Her ability to transform space and establish the visual world of a production with precision and artistry is a significant asset for The Bed Head.

KAYSIAN WILSON BOURKE is a Jamaican stylist, designer, and costume creative whose work weaves culture, nostalgia, and visual identity into character. Her film credits include When Morning Comes, and she has contributed to the production teams of One Love, Black Cake, and Top Boy — a body of work that spans independent Caribbean drama to major international productions.
