The Lower East Side Film Festival is heading outdoors for a summer series of free community screenings in Tompkins Square Park at the Bandshell. Admission is free. Bring your friends, bring your dog. We’ll bring the movies.
Directed by Noah Baumbach and co-written by Greta Gerwig, this sharply funny coming-of-age film follows a college freshman (Lola Kirke) and her chaotic future stepsister (Greta Gerwig) through a whirlwind of ambition and misadventure across New York City.

Directed by Questlove, this Academy Award-winning documentary resurrects the long-forgotten 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival—a joy-soaked celebration of Black music, culture, and resistance. The film features concert performances by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Mahalia Jackson, B.B. King, The 5th Dimension and more. Join us for live music in the park ahead of the screening.

Come early for the Emma Stone Look-Alike Contest and stay for one of the boldest films to ever hit Times Square and take home Best Picture. Directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, starring Michael Keaton, Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone, and Naomi Watts.

Each screening opens with a short film by NYC filmmakers and LESFF alumni—and yes, there’ll be plenty of snacks, giveaways, and a few surprises to keep things properly LESFF.
All events will feature free refreshments + surprises from our LESFF sponsors—including ice cold Topo Chico, treats from Wonder, and cozy vibes courtesy of Sofaclub, Flamer and Rosa Reta (serving up free shaved ice!) Community support comes from East Village Community Coalition and Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES) and The Loisida Center.
